About Chester City Centre
Chester City is a city in Cheshire, England, and, with a population of more than 77 000 inhabitants, it is the largest and most populous settlement of the wider unitary authority area of Cheshire West and Chester, which had more than 328 000 people, living within its limits, in 2001. It was granted city status in 1541, and it was founded as a "castrum", a word used by Romans which means buildings or plots of land reserved to or constructed for use as a military defensive position. It is believed that Chester City was founded as a Roman fort, with the name Deva Victrix, in the year 79, by the Roman Legio II Adiutrix, during the reign of the Emperor Vespasian.
Due to its architectural beauties and historical allure, which has made it significantly popular, Chester ranks, today, alongside the gorgeous cities of London, York, Bath and Edinburgh. Among its most precious historical landmarks, we find Chester Cathedral, which was founded as a Benedictine monastery, more than 900 years ago, drawing hundreds of thousand of visitors, annually. Despite the fact that Chester has kept its history and heritage alive, it is also a vibrant city, with a dinamic nightlife scene, including clubs, bars, pubs, as well as great hotels and restaurants, offering its visitors a complete, unique travel experience.
